Site Information and Stats

The idea for the Warmington Village Web started during the village millennium celebrations. I thought about the way information technology had become the  marker by which 21st century was known and wondered how the village of Warmington would change and develop over the next 1,000 years. 
Many villages and communities were already making use of the Internet to provide access to information for parishioners, relations and expats across the world. I felt it was time for Warmington to join the information age, so I registered the domain name and started work.


The Web Site Editor
After some lengthy research on 27 July 2001 a pilot site was set up to define the general layout and content of the site. After testing out a number of designs Warmington Village Web went live on 1st October 2001. 
Currently the site is over 44 Mb in size with 340 pages of information,  with more pages being added each month.

The site now averages over 300 visitors a day viewing an average of 17 pages each. A few of the visitors are ex-residents living abroad who like to keep in touch with what is happening in the village. We have visitors from near-by Oundle as well as America, Spain, Japan, Canada and Australia.

The site is generally written in HTML with some specific services, i.e. forum and diary written in Perl and PHP. A few pages, i.e. the home page, also use SSIs.
