The Village Hall in Church Street was purpose-built and opened in May 1974. Prior to this, it had been known as the Recreation Hut situated in Chapel. Due to legislation, costly work was essential to provide up-to-date facilities. It was decided to raise funds for a new Village Hall and Elton Estates offered the present site for sale, which was accepted. In 1970, the Warmington New Village Hall Committee was formed to raise funds, and indeed two of the members are still currently serving on the present Village Hall Committee, ie Maureen Eden and Elizabeth Dakteris.
The Hall is managed voluntarily by a committee elected annually and representative members of organisations who use the facilities if they so choose. There is no involvement or assistance from any locai or statutory organisations or local authority. It is purely self-financing and available for use by any persons or organisations wishing to hire same.
The Hall is regularly used by the local Adult Education Authority, Parent & Toddler Group, Leisure Club, Short Mat Bowls Club, Line Dancing Group, exercise classes, Tuesday Club for Children (Church) and the Church Choir. Also the Drama Group, Horticultural Society, the Church (St Mary's), Parish Council, Playgroup, Elton Boat Club, East Northants Council (Local Elections etc) and the senior citizens annual Christmas Party all take place in the Hall along with other bookings from time to time.
Parishioners regularly use the Hall for family occasions, ie wedding receptions, christenings, birthday celebrations and even ballroom dancing etc. The Hall is available for hire by non-parishioners, but at a higher rate.
Friends of the Village Hall (holding trustees) are: Maureen Eden, Elizabeth Dakteris and Gill O'Leary.
The present annually elected committee are: Hazel Turner, Ann Austin, Jill Taylor, Sylvia Whitehead, Janet Davis (Peterborough) and Linda Ponting (Thrapston).
Officers: Hazel Turner (Chairwoman), Maureen Eden (Secretary) and Ann Austin (Treasurer).
Representative members:
Ruth Rowell Horticultural Society
Bunny Enfield Parish Council
Paula Bosworth Short Mat Bowls
Paula Bosworth Leisure Club
Kate Dalziel Parent & Toddler Group
Ray Rootham Caretaker
Fundraising events are essential to keep rents as low as possible (ie parishioners pay £3 per hour, Monday to Friday and £5 per hour Saturdays and Sundays. Non Parishioners pay £7 per hour at all times). Also funds are always required for emergency repairs and replacements.
