Held on 15 April 2002, 7.30 pm, Village Hall

 

Steering Group Member Present: William Du Croz, Judy Stroud Annette Solt, Lindsey Reed, Bob Davey, Jane Brant, Robert Brant.

Attending: Stephen Solt, Karen Ure, Richard Hall, Derek Rowell, Peter Banbridge, Derek Thomas, Mary Hodges, Paula Bosworth.

 

1. Welcome: William welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked those involved for their hard work.

 

2. Apologies: David Constant, Andy Crouch, Graham Yeatman

 

3. Minutes of the last meeting held on 21 February: These were agreed.

 

4. Village Workshop on 27 April: Thanks were expressed to Stephen, Annette and Louise Solt, Graham Yeatman and all involved for their hard work in producing and distributing the Newsletter.

 

The draft programme for the Workshop is based on the Countryside Commission Advisory Booklet on Village Design.

 

Organising the day:

Please arrive at 9.30 for a 10.00 am start.

Response to invites to the workshop ‑ Only a few had been received but many

more people are hoping to come along. So far:

Outside ‑ Bunting needs to be hung outside to attract people to the event

Inside: ‑ Graffiti Board welcoming all comments in vestibule/outside

 

Tables & chairs need arranging ‑ Sets of 2 tables, 4 on each side of room for groups.

 

 

Ideally start with three groups of max. 10 people in each. For 30 mins a group will either work out a route for visitors which will give them an impression of the village; or divide the village into zones and explain each one; or identify landmarks of Warmington.

 

Briefing about Village Survey (15 mins)

 

PART 1. Walk around village taking cameras and clipboards for 1 hour only. ACTION ON CAMERAS: Check with Andy Crouch about request for donated cameras from Boots; Derek Thomas, Lindsey Reed and Stephen Solt have digital cameras. Those wishing to bring own cameras please do so. Processing will take place before afternoon session. Care will be needed if taking pictures of houses. Need all aspects of village and surrounding area. One group could travel by car and visit Papley and other areas in Parish (need for permission to use Papley Road. ACTION Stephen Solt). Also need permission to look at barns behind Manor House. ACTION ‑ Stephen Solt)

 

Processing of films. Jane Brant offered to zoom to Peterborough.

 

PART 2. Repeat of Stage 1 but covering different areas of parish.

 

Lunch. Soup and rolls ‑ small charge. Tea `£ coffee all day (donation box)

 

Advertising. Re‑use the 3 Warmington Carnival Boards. Put up by 21April.

 

Posters. Judy & Tom. Half‑size poster + tear off strip invitation for small distribution.

 

Other equipment. Richard has colour printer, Steve has PC for downloading digital cameras. Robert has portable laser printer+ paper.

 

Afternoon. Conclusions from morning and initial character assessment of village by William. Liz Davey is kindly making a celebration cake. Ideas for decorating to Bob for copying please. The Press will be present for cutting of the cake.

 

Discussion about Village Character. Conclusion around 4 ‑ 4.30 pm.

Outcome from Workshop. Displays on 3 June &; 6 July.

 

Aerial Photos. Karen has a list. She was asked if she would join the steering group to which she agreed.

 

Finances for Day. Robert estimated that we shall need around £300 to cover costs.

 

5. Newsletter Number 2. So far this will contain articles by Jane Blackford and Colin Ray, the outcomes from the Workshop and adverts for the displays and farm walk (?8 June).

 

Design. ACTION Stephen Solt.

 

Distribution. Weekend of 25/26 May.

 

6. Other Events

Stephen's walk on evening of 16 May at 6.30. Annette has booked the Village

H6ll. Walk starts at Village Hall and ends at the pub. Posters ACTION

Judy/Torn; adverts in Four All and in church newsletter ACTION William.

 

Robert Bosworth's talk 1800 ‑ present day on Thursday 30 May. Back by popular request! Display in entrance to Village Hall on that night. ACTION Judy to book Village Hall

 

Jubilee Picnic on 3 June. Display consisting of panels on landscape, buildings and village setting. Bold statements + questionnaire of 10 questions to rank important things. ACTION Lindsey has copy of Wansford's questionnaire.

 

Farm walk Probably Saturday 8 June. George Barker along with Robert Bosworth ~ Amy Boud (RFT). Arrangements to be confirmed.

 

Idea of display of village in 1952. ACTION Derek Rowell, Mary, Paula to see what they can find. Pauline H6ll is collecting information on loan.

 

Idea from Bob to invite older residents to record memories ofthat time on tape. Perhaps some young people would like to do this.

 

Put request in Four All for information around 1952.

 

Mrs. Peggy Tuffs has kindly donated several boxes of slides of the village to VDS.

 

Vic Cooper has lent William a document about a development option for Warmington, showing an early idea for Nene pastures.

 

Mary Hodges has photos and Graham Yeatman may have some too.

 

Derek Thomas and Robert can scan photos.

 

7. Fundraising. Lindsey has sent letters. Robert will fill in Awards for All Grant

Form.

Robert reported that we raised £110 from Robert Bosworth's talk and that we

have £422.34 in the bank.

 

8. Rockingham Forest Trust ‑ Community Design Self‑help Network. There was unanimous support for this initiative. Thanks to David Constant who has offered to go to the meetings.

 

9. Any Other Business. Peter Banbridge has 2 aerial photos of Warmington. Derek Rowell thinks that Peter Moules has aerial photos of the village.

 

10. Date of next Meeting. Wednesday 1 May.
