Common comments

  1. There is an overwhelming opinion to preserve the football pitch and maintain the tradition which the field was first used for, primarily for a village team, but the facilities have to be up to certain standards.

  2. There is however, another large group of non-footballers who would like to see a real leisure facility for general use. This should not be in conflict with the football as most other functions will probably be in the summer.

  3. Some concerns were expressed about the 25 year lease, getting grants and cutting the grass.

Other comments: desire to have facilities located away from houses (3), lock gate (2), concerns over travellers using the field (2), ensure no lighting (2), install pedestrian gate (2), anti-social behaviour could be a problem (2), must be in keeping with the Village Design Statement (2), discourage parking on Dexter Way (2), car parking needed on field (2), trees planted along Dexter Way (1), potential negative impact of certain facilities on lives and value of property (1), use for football should not be restricted to one club (1), keep dogs off (1).

Offers to help: 20 people offered to help with a range of tasks including general (8), Warmington football club (2), litter picking (2), youth input (1), provide refreshments for Warmington football club (1), fund raising (1), negotiating longer lease with Elton Estates (1), leisure field committee (1), grass cutting (1).

What next?

The Leisure Field Committee believes that an all weather multi-function sports pitch which could be used for tennis as well as other sports would be the most suitable additional facility. It would be relatively easy and cheap to maintain. To achieve this we need funding.

When can the field be used for football matches?

Taylor Woodrow are in the process of connecting water, sewage and electricity services to the portacabin and we hope that it can be used as a changing room next season. We now need to obtain a gang mower so that the grass can be cut to a standard for football. Does anyone know where we can obtain a second hand gang mower?

Can you help?

We intend to apply for grants to help purchase a mower and an all weather multi-function sports pitch. Grant giving bodies will usually only pay for part of the cost and we therefore need to raise money too. Can you or your business help by offering a donation, or recommending a local business that we can approach for a donation?

If you can help or would like to be involved in the development of the field we would be delighted to hear from you. Contact Philip Brashaw (Secretary to the Leisure Field Committee) at 10 Bosworth Close, Warmington, PE8 6WF tel: 01832 280 860, email philipjudith.brashaw@btinternet.com
