Festival Poem by Pat Yates

On 12th and 13th September 1987 the Village held a very successful festival weekend which raised over £2,500 towards a new heating system in the Church. Pat Yates poem, about the festival events in the village, was published in the October edition of the village Magazine.

For weeks and months the planning went on,
For the Festival of Flowers at Warmington.
To be held in the second weekend in September,
A spectacle for all to remember.

The Church was transformed with flowers gay,
Every nook and corner in bright array,
Depicting the Saints in all their glory,
Each one telling a different story.

St Peter, St Patrick, St George and St Andrew,
Were there on display just to mention a few,
The pillars were decked with green, yellow and blue,
Floral baskets and posies hung on every pew.

Outside the Church was many a stall,
Cream teas were served in the Village Hall.
In the Chapel, paintings were displayed,
And all round the village a Pipe Band played.

A 'fun run' also was on offer,
With the money raised to swell the coffer.
The Drama Group recited poems to please,
Followed by an evening of 'Wine and Cheese'.

The Boat Club too had a part to play,
And for us all had an Open Day.
The League of Health and Beauty did their bit,
And a football match was played on the School pitch.

Children and dogs on Elms Farm then decended,
To show just how well their pets had been tended.
A barbecue was held in the Vicarage garden,
If I've left anything out - my error, please pardon!

I hope this little poem will give you pleasure,
And leave you some Memories to treasure.
Of a weekend of fun and laughter and flowers,
Two glorious days filled with happy hours.
