News in Brief

Toddler Group

After over seven years of running Warmington Toddler Group, Kate Dalziel has handed over 'the reins' over to a new committee.

The group is an important part of the community, providing a warm safe place for young children to play.

Autumn Fair

The Village Hall Autumn Fair raised £307 despite the poor attendance.

Thanks go to everyone who supported the event.

Youth Representative

Warmington Parish Council is looking for a young person to speak up for the young people of the village.

They can let the council know how they can help, not only by providing facilities but just by listening to their views.

Cancer Relief

A coffee morning at 7 Big Green was attended by sixty four people and raised £435 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Q - How many witches does it take to change a light bulb?

A - One, because she'd changed it into a toad!

Are You a Mugwump?

Sometimes I am because I lack assurance about what the best course of action might be.  Ah! I hear you say, "what is a mugwump?" Its someone who sits with their 'mug' on one side of the fence and their 'wump' on the other. I find this particularly applies to the me with the bombing in Afganistan.
Within the Christian faith here have been diverse opinions about war, retribution, defence, pacifism, etc. The Quaker tradition has tended towards pacifism and non-violence. Others have taken the 'eye for an eye' passage literalistically. The Church of England encompasses the whole spectrum as it does about most things.
Like so many situations there are valid arguments and biblical passages that can be used to back up the position one holds. So often it is the opinion that seeks ratification from these sources rather arriving at an opinion because of them. At all times the advice and opinions of all sides must be weighed and held against the plumb line of all scripture, not just selected passages.

Village of the Year Competition

Despite gaining high marks in the village competition, and very high marks in the best kept churchyard competition, Warmington failed to gain any prizes this year. Two inspections were made, in June and August. Sadly the judges noted litter in parts of the village on one visit, but positive comments were made about gardens, the cemetery and the village hall. The playing field has little to commend it at the moment but hopefully this will improve. Overall, it seems that the judges expected every aspect of a village's appearance to be near perfect at all times, which is seldom possible in most cases.

Oundle Ambulance Station

Information regarding the future of Emergency Ambulance cover in this area has been given to Four All. Although it does not come from an official source, it supports claims seen on posters in Oundle, and is cause for concern in our villages.
If the information is correct there are plans to close the Oundle Ambulance Station permanently. Recent changes in the service moved staff from Oundle to Corby, and reduced the permanent ambulance cover to 21 hours per day, with even less cover on Wednesday.
At present the ambulance is stationed at Thrapston instead of Oundle. The travelling time between the two towns is 10 minutes which means that the service cannot match the Governments 8 minute ORCON. This is the time given to ambulance services to get to life threatening situations.
For the villages to the north and east of Oundle the time is several minutes longer, therefore the removal of a permanent ambulance service from Oundle will seriously affect the time we in our villages will have to wait for assistance. In some cases this could lead to fatalities.
