News in Brief

Christian Aid Week

Thank you to everyone who helped with the collection and donated to the cause raising over £375.

Village Design Statement

The VDS display and questionnaire were very well received over the jubilee weekend.

The information received will give the Steering Group plenty to work on over the coming months.

Toddler Group

The Warmington Toddler Group has received a big boost to their organisation in the shape of an 'Awards for All' lottery grant.

The £840 is to be spent updating worn out safety mats, a trampoline, play equipment and specially designed play partitions to create play areas for babies and toddlers.

Warmington tunes up!

IT WAS only in June 2001 that I encouraged the young people of Warmington to give their views to the Parish Council, and suggested that a youth representative might be prepared to voice their opinions. Well, there was a quick response. Jenny Davey volunteered to put forward the views of the younger inhabitants of Warmington, and things certainly seem to be happening now.
The first opinion was that the young people share the views of those interested in the recently acquired village playing field, including the need for modern facilities. The Parish Council is currently actively searching out large scale grants to fund this project. It will be a long hard job getting all the necessary money together, and a group of interested villagers will be needed to form a Committee to actively progress this goal. Although the response last year from the adults was not encouraging, perhaps this time, egged on by the younger generation, we'll be overwhelmed with interest! Watch out for posters/information for a meeting in the near future.
Jenny also reported a demand for the formation of a youth 'orchestra' a group of young people who can play instruments for their own pleasure, and also give occasional concerts in the village. The Parish Council certainly supports this idea, and have made up to £100 available to start the group off. Sixteen young people and nine parents met at the village school on 22 May, to discuss the details of starting up such a group under the leadership of David Constant. Again, watch out for posters/information in the near future, particularly if you know of someone who would like to join.
As part of May's Parish Council meeting, Jenny mentioned she was aware of the groundswell, amongst teenagers, about the lack of social facilities for them in the village. What about a modern Youth Club she asked? By good fortune, in the audience was a representative from NCC who said that he was looking for a village in which to set up a new style youth club, and that he could provide two volunteer 'leaders' and, perhaps, some funding. Everyone at the meeting jumped at the idea and, by the time that you read this, a meeting will have been held to discuss the formation of a fortnightly youth gathering.
Well, all that started from a few words in Four All. Warmington is growing and hopefully, so are its amenities for our young people. Growth can also give wider opportunities, with more people available to help run and take part in the many and varied organisations and activities in the village.

Mike Dixon, Parish Councillor
