News in Brief

Speed Cameras

Northamptonshire Police are willing to consider suggestions from residence on roads that are subject to excessive speeding. They will use one of their 'safety camera vans' to enforce the speed limit.

WI

Its over five years since the Warmington branch of the WI closed. With several villagers expressing an interest in seeing the WI running again, the search is on for a volunteer to take on the role of Secretary.

Judith Singlehurst of Glapthorne WI (01832 205215) has offered a helping hand.

School News

The children have had a busy month. Twelve children joined a group from Glapthorn school on a weekend trip to York. They all enjoyed themselves aided by the good weather.

The PFA Quiz Night was a great success raising over £100 for school funds. The school also took part in a football tournament at Prince William School and played very well.

Bell Ringers on Strike!

The Peterborough Branch of the Guild of Church Bell Ringers held their annual striking competition at St Mary's, Warmington on Saturday 16 June. The refurbish ring of six bells performed splendidly.

Seven bands of local ringers entered this good natured-contest. The winners were from St Mary's Peterborough, followed by teams from Bulwick, St John's (Peterborough), Castor, Warmington, Glinton and Maxey.

Thanks to the Pocket-Parkers

I must say a thank you to the 'chosen few' who have been stalwarts in creating and keeping our pocket parks in Warmington. We at the Playgroup made a visit last term to search for 'mini beasts and bugs'.

It was wondrous and amazing to the children with so much opportunity for discovery, discussion and more. We found numerous mini beasts including the biggest, fattest slugs I have ever seen! Also, the willow igloo of course was a huge success.

The feedback from children and parents too was so pleasing and rewarding. So if you have young children I highly recommend a trip to the 'jungle' to explore and see what you can find.
